Gay Community News (GCN) reports Women Against Violence Against Women has announced a boycott against seven Warrier Record labels Atco, Atlantic, Asylum, Elektra, Nonesuch, Reprise and Warner Brothers until the record companies stop depicting women as victims of sexual and other violence. Spokeswoman Julia London said: "Our emphasis at this point is on the use of abusive sex in sexual relationships as a selling technique. Of course, we're not interested in seeing women objectivized in non-violent sexual ways for purposes of selling anything, but the immediate protest is to get rid of the violence. The images on album covers are part of an environment that trivializes brutality against women...

Mayor E. Clay Shaw of Fort Lauderdale has recently sounded the battle cry of -Gays Must Go" in this resort city. GCN reports the mayor is alarmed at growing numbers of gay people reflected in hotels being taken over by "homosexual interests." Shaw also has linked Fort Lauderdale's gay community with male and prostitutes drugs. Apparently, "for the first time" the gay community of the city itself organized and demonstrated at City Hall, demanding a retraction from the mayor and his resignation. The feeling of some was that the mayor's action was "just a political stunt" in preparation for the upcoming Feb. 8 primary election. Nonetheless, it stirred a typically apolitical, apathetic Ft.
